Mohamed Yusuf was born in Mogadishu, Somalia and moved to Canada at age six with his parents. He grew up in Ottawa and loved playing sports, especially basketball and soccer. He joined the basketball team in high school. After graduation from high school, he attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., USA. Mohamed was selected to play for the Canadian Deaf Soccer Team at the 2016 World Championships in Italy.
